What are Classifications?
Adobe Analytics collects visitor data from web sessions but this data doesn't always include all of the information that a customer might want to have in their reports. For instance, Analytics may track that a visitor clicked a "call support" button but the details about length of the call, subject, customer satisfaction, etc. would not be included in the report without uploading those additional data points into Analytics.
Analytics Classifications allow users to bulk-import additional data attributes, or dimensions, to Analytics to enrich reports.
When should I use Classifications?
The following are common use-cases for utilizing Classifications:
Campaign traffic
Partners who drive traffic to a site for a campaign may want to send additional data to Analytics that can tie to a campaign ID. For instance, a visitor lands on Adobe.com and is identified as having been directed there via campaign ID 1234. Adobe.com only knows the ID 1234 and no additional information about the campaign. The partner who initiated the campaign and drove the user to Adobe.com can then send additional dimensions to Analytics about the campaign.
Voice of Customer (Survey)
Partners who deliver surveys to site visitors often do so offline or on a different domain than where the invite was initiated. Customers want to have the survey results associated to the visitors session in their Analytics reports but can only access this information if the partner uploads the data to Analytics via Classifications.
Call Center/Support
Partners who provide analytics or tracking around support services via phone or online chat can send additional dimensions to Analytics about the support session. For example, a user initiates a support call directly from the customer site and is directed through the partner widget on the page. The partner will gather additional information about that users support experience such as call length, subject, satisfaction, etc. and can send this to Analytics via Classifications.
How do I use Classifications?
Rule Builder
Rather than maintaining and uploading classifications each time tracking codes change, customers can create automatic, rule-based classifications and apply them across multiple report suites. For more information, please see:
Classifications API
Adobe Analytics has provided a Classifications API (version 1.4) to automate the process of uploading and classifying dimensions into Analytics. For more information, please see:
